David Black (born 1950) was brought up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. After leaving Middlesex Polytechnic he worked for Roland and Claire Muldoon’s Cartoon Archetypical Slogan Theatre (C.A.S.T.) and later for New Variety. In the 1980s he got into freelance journalism. Since 1999 he has been co-editor of The Hobgoblin – a Journal of Marxist-Humanism.

His other books are Acid: A New Secret History of LSD, Helen Macfarlane: A Feminist, Revolutionary Journalist and Philosopher in Mid-Nineteenth Century England, and The Philosophical Roots of Anti-Capitalism: Essays on History, Culture and Dialectical Thought.
